This project started very simply. I replanted my flower garden. While digging in the dirt, I remembered lithographs from an earlier abstract daylily series that I made when I first moved to NC. Some of those lithos became the base for the new daylily paintings on paper.

The stuff of the land are the materials and tools. Water on paper, canvas, or panels creates stains that developed into recurring patterns -- plants for shapes and textures, the colors of spring and high summer. The recent mixed media paintings are on wood panels.

I like to play with the way layers and surfaces hide and reveal.
